So, Opponauts, I have a question I need some help with. About this beauty.
I’m looking at replacing one or more lifters in our Escalade ESV for the second time in 6 months due to an AFM malfunction.
At 124k, it’s starting to really get on my nerves. How can a 6 year-old Escalade with a Chevy truck engine be so much less reliable than my flogged, 18 year-old M3 with 204k miles on the clock? Blame it on this new-fangled AFM/DoD (cylinder deactivation) I guess, but color me not impressed.
We regularly take long - LONG - road trips. And I should mention that we have 4 kids, so the third row is a requirement.
I feel like I’m ready to ditch it, and while the brand new 2016 Escalade we have for a loaner right now is really nice, I always really wished we’d gotten that X5 5.0 V8 turbo that drove like my wife’s CTS-V.
But then in 2014 Range Rover added a third row to the Sport, giving us a new option for a both CTS-V replacement and family hauler.
The problem though is that I can’t seem to find any with the third row.
Like, ANY. NONE.
Any Opponauts out there know if third row RR Sports are just not available in real life, or at least in the US? Or if they’re only available in certain weird, unpopular options packages?

They’re not quite as spacious as ESV rear seats, but they’re more comfortable. IIRC, you can get them in pretty much all configurations, including the new for the US TD6.

I worked at a Land Rover dealership for 6 months and never once saw one with third row seats. Judging from the photos I’m seeing on Google, it looks like it basically reduces trunk space to zero, so that might make road trips difficult.

Car and Driver just did a comparo of a Range Rover Sport against the new Q7, XC90, and X5, all of them with a third row (so it is possible!). They said it was basically shoehorned in there and unsuitable for long trips.

Soooooo you’re going from a unreliable GM vehicle to considering a Range Rover - brand infamous for its lack of reliability?
Sweet :)

Look at the LR4. Sweet spot is the 5.0 NA V8. Leather wrapped everything in a bigger package with foldaway third seat.

You might want to check more recent reliability ratings before cracking wise. You’re correct if your point is that’s still the common misconception.

Doesn’t the XC90 have a 3rd row?
Obvious choice is obvious.

I saw and sat in one, it is the smallest seat ever. No space anywhere, my legs didn’t fit. I think the one I tried was the only one available in New England at the time. If you want a Land Rover get an LR4. My mom bought a 2015 Chevy Suburban, it is all changed from the old one. We have no complaints, have taken it on ski trips, road trips and everyday driving. Had it for almost a year and it has performed well beyond expectations.

We’ve loved the Escalade, too, but it’s starting to be a lemon. We have a 2016 at the moment while they’re diagnosing (or rather confirming my diagnosis) ours. It’s fantastic.
It’s just that it can’t really replace a CTS-V. The RR Sport is fast enough, handles well enough, and has enough seats.
I just can’t find any.
Maybe in another year or two once they start rolling Off Lease?

Fake third row not even worth a mention or any of your time I went to the dealer ship for the same reason be as eithe Range Rover sport had a third row I was not impressed at all it can fit two kid under 5 for a few hours probably the worst third row in its class
I settled and got a lr4 because the third row is made to fit full size adults and u get the same leg room the second row. I just got it all blacked out to look a little sportier and now im happy with it I kicks ass off road too and great for family trips
sm70- why not Duesenberg?
